THIMUN 2009

2009 Activities

BENGT
The end of 2008 end marked the conclusion of our efforts with the organization Studi Senza Frontieri. After having held multiple bake sale, ticket sales, and one or two documentaries, our profits were pretty sizable and hopefully were able to help students around the world.
With the war on Gaza, BENGT with the aid of an avid student leader [Brando Finiti] hosted a documentary showing with the purpose of providing, what we hope was, indifferent information and background knowledge of the conflict in the Gaza Strip.
The documentary on Gaza proved to be so successful that the whole month of February was devoted to raising peace awareness throughout the school. With bake sales, t-shirts, peace ribbons, and a final concert, we hope to raise funds for Emergency and help those that are truly in need.

MUN
After months of selection and team building, January came around and resolutions began to be drafted. Weekly workshops were held to aid in the process, and to exchange important information on the subject matter. Representing a UNO was of great importance and required extra attention to detail during the research phase. Making sure that we were able to represent our delegation fully, we headed to The Hague on January 24th to come back on the 1st of February. Starting on January 25 we had a series of meetings and finally on the 26th debate officially started. Up to January 30th, we enjoyed very fruitful debate and resolution-making. This as my last of 8 MUN conferences truly holds a special place in my heart.

Down Syndrome Theater (DST)
In DST, we have finally decided which play we will enact. It will be based on an Italian film that takes a particular pessimistic outlook on the world as it stands today. Looking at the humanitarian crises around the world, the film-maker cant be blamed. The play encompasses us building an ark, like that of Noah in the Bible, to try to save an apocalyptic world. In this arc, we are free to take with us whatever we need to start off from scratch again. It then begins to take a comedic aspect as no all the characters are skeptical about building the arc and quizzical on what to take on the arc. We hope to perform it right after IB examinations in May.
